Artist Statement

I am an abstract expressionist artist. My use of vibrant colors and bold layered marks are a unique pairing of realism and expressionism. My paintings contrast the initial impact of distinct colors and line work, with subtle marks and patinas that give depth to each piece.

I studied art at the University of Utah, and paint from my home studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. My work has been exhibited throughout the West and can be found in private collections throughout the United States and Canada.

Materials

My primary medium is acrylic paint.

I use graphite, oil pastels, ink, and charcoal to add variety and contrast to my mark making, in order to add depth and energy to each painting.  

My painting tools include brushes, trowels, power sanders, scrapers, nails, hammer, my fingers, and towels…anything I can find to create a surface finish that adds a sense of story, history, and mystery to the work.

Inspiration

It never ceases to amaze me how flowers… so fleeting and fragile, can make such a lasting and bold impression. They lift my spirits the moment I lay eyes on them! 

When my paintings make someone smile, offer a break from a tough day, or add a touch of joy to their home…it makes me happy. Adding a spark of joy to the day is why I love to paint.
